I wasn't happy with the grain pattern on the sides of the cabinet so I began the process of re-veneering with some straight grained veneer.
Here you can see the original grain pattern from the plywood. I chose the best section available but just thought the rotary cut left too much cathedral pattern that will look too pronounced in the finish.
I had some nice straightgrained Red Oak veneer on hand so I re-veneered the cabinet sides. This is a much more refined look.
The legs are made from quarter sawn pieces which have a great look-however each leg is laminated from two 1 inch pieces- I tried to match these as best as possible but the there was a color difference along the glue lines of the legs. I am veneering the sides where the glue joints show. This will result in a four sided quarter sawn look.
I had some of this veneer in stock but not enough to cover all the legs. I ordered some more and it will be in soon.
Note the color tone difference-This will be noticed in the finish.
Here I have veneered over the glue joint side-now nice straight grained figure will appear on all four sides.
